Anchored in Adventure, United by the Sea

A Rich History

Who We Are

Established in 1945 by forward-looking families, the Blue Water Cruising Club has evolved into a cherished haven for boating enthusiasts. With no mainland facilities, our focus remains steadfast on Big Geiger Cove—our private retreat on Catalina Island. Membership is intentionally kept intimate, with a cap at 55 boats, ensuring every member enjoys the tranquility and beauty of the cove. This exclusivity fosters a tight-knit community, united by a passion for the sea and ready to welcome new members into our fold.

Our origins trace back to post-WWII San Pedro, where the desire for adventure led families to Catalina Island, marking the beginning of BWCC. Over decades, we've nurtured a legacy of family-oriented boating, preserving the pristine Big Geiger Cove as a testament to our founders' vision. The cove has been the backdrop for countless memories—treasure hunts, holiday celebrations, and serene getaways—cementing our place as a storied institution in the boating community.

Membership and Community

Spirit of Adventure

Adventure runs deep in our club's ethos, with members embarking on voyages to distant shores and engaging in the cherished traditions that define our collective spirit. The annual events we host—from the lively Treasure Hunt to the festive Labor Day Luau—mirror the adventurous spirit and camaraderie that have been our hallmarks since the beginning. These gatherings are not just events but milestones that celebrate our shared passion for the sea.

The Blue Water Cruising Club's heartbeat is its members, who steer the club's legacy through their dedication and collective efforts. Our unique approach to boating at Big Geiger Cove—relying on natural anchoring and personal vessels for access—embodies our commitment to simplicity and environmental stewardship. We invite those who share our values of friendship, adventure, and a love for the ocean to join us, enriching our community with their stories and spirit.
